On retiring they returned to their home communities with the intention of using their skills and knowledge to make a positive contribution to the Kilimanjaro region. Since its foundation KEDA has run a number of environmental and social projects including educating local farmers about organic agriculture, assisting families affected by HIV, and introducing a dairy goat distribution project to diversify household income.
